Why the Cottage
Three miles from the White House, Abraham Lincoln found the quiet to think. He rode out to this hilltop cottage through three wartime summers, and it was here that he worked on the Emancipation Proclamation.
The Cottage Day works the way our Gettysburg programs work: history is the case, and the ground is the classroom. You stand where the decision was made, work through the pressures Lincoln was under, and carry what holds up back to the decisions waiting on your own desk.

Enter Lincoln's seasonal home and examine how place shaped perspective during the Civil War.
Work the competing pressures, incomplete information, and consequences surrounding a defining choice. Lunch is included.

The program is at President Lincoln's Cottage, 140 Rock Creek Church Rd NW, Washington, DC 20011. The Cottage says on-site parking is available. Your logistics email will include current entrance and arrival instructions.
The Georgia Avenue–Petworth Metro station is approximately three-quarters of a mile away. The H8 bus serves the area. Check WMATA for current service before traveling.
